Individually Leveled Class
Individually leveled classes provide the differentiation needed in reading and math so that students can be appropriately challenged according to their individual academic ability while at the same time allowing them to progress through academic scope and sequence at a personally appropriate rate. In reading, this looks like small reading groups formed from data considering vocabulary, comprehension and other linguistic measures.
In math, students are placed according to their ability level and then progress individually through mathematical courses accordingly. A student may finish only three quarters of a grade level in one year or they may finish one and a half grade levels in one school year, or they may fall somewhere in between. Each child is different and allowing them to progress through math curricula at the speed where they can experience mastery and a healthy challenge is optimum for student growth.
Whole Group Classes
Whole group classes include content areas such as science, history and Bible. These classes can be taught across various grade levels simultaneously with assignments differentiated as needed. For example, multi-age students can all learn about the Pilgrims or the Exodus from Egypt and then demonstrate understanding according to the student's various ability levels.
